WORCESTER – The City of Worcester begins its annual Fitness in the Parks summer program on Monday 5 June.
The program runs from June 5 to August 27 in eight city parks, on a weekly basis. All classes are free and open to the public. There will be no classes on June 19, July 3 and July 4. The full program is shown below. Registration is required.
The Worcester Department of Public Health presents the program with Blue Cross Blue Shield, the YWCA of Massachusetts and the YMCA of Central Massachusetts.
The weekly program of Fitness in the Parks:
Monday
- University (Crystal) Park, noon – 1pm
- Hip Hop: Encompasses a range of street styles including breaking, blocking and popping. This class for young beginners focused on developing rhythm and coordination while encouraging individual style. All levels are welcome!
- Town Hall common room 5.30pm – 6.15pm
- Bootcamp: This strength and conditioning class features different exercises and great music in each class. Not only will you increase your stamina, strength and condition, but you will never get bored.
- Crompton Park, 5.30pm to 6.30pm
- Yoga: Designed for both beginners and advanced students who prefer a class at a relaxed pace. In this lesson you will use postures and mindful breathing in combination with mental focus to develop awareness through proper alignment and body awareness.
Tuesday
- Elm Park, 5:30pm to 6:30pm
- Grounding and Balancing Meditation: End your day with a grounding and balancing meditation that connects you to the magnetic electrical pulse of the earth. Grounding practices have been scientifically proven to boost the body’s natural defenses and functions. Bringing balance to your mind and providing tranquility and relaxation to calm your body and get you into the flow.
Wednesday
- Cristoforo Colombo Park (East), from 7:30 to 8:15
- Realign and Relax: Join us in a light stretching class to start the day, followed by a sound bath.
- Oread Castle Park, 4-5pm
- Boxing: A high intensity workout that builds fitness, strength and coordination for all levels. It’s also a great calorie burner. Boxing is primarily a cardio exercise, but it also strengthens your core and lower body muscles. Includes shadow boxing, ladder drills, simulated speed bag, and balance and core work.
Thursday
- Lake Park, 07:30 to 08:15
- Morning Mantra Meditation: Start your day enlivened with a mantra meditation supported by the rhythm and vibration of sound healing. Both mantra and sound experiences have been shown to affect our mind, body and spirit and can change the way we operate in the world. Start your day by embodying and embracing this powerful energy, leaving you ready to move forward feeling energized.
- YMCA’s Fuller Family Park, 4:30pm to 5:30pm
- Sports exercises: Sports exercises train through repeated exercises or repetitions. This includes a series of ground balls, playing catch, practicing footwork, hitting, running the bases, or doing any other activity. All levels are welcome!
Friday
- City Hall Commune, 4.30pm to 5.30pm
- HIIT: An interval training exercise that incorporates several rounds alternating between several minutes of high-intensity movements to significantly raise your heart rate to at least 80% of your maximum heart rate, followed by short bouts of lower-intensity movements. All levels are welcome!
Saturday
- Fuller Family Park by YMCA, 9:30am to 10:30am
- Zumba: A Latin American choreographic style of dance rhythms applied to music. Learn the basic easy movements while having fun. This is a dance workout that looks and sounds more like a dance party. All levels are welcome!
